Veterans Service Office

Serving Those Who Served Us

Our Mission

The St. Clair County Veterans Service Office is dedicated to improving the quality of life for veterans and their families by connecting them to the full range of services, benefits, and support they have earned through their service to our nation. We are here to guide, advocate, and assist every veteran who calls St. Clair County home.

What We Do

Navigating the VA system and accessing benefits can be overwhelming. That’s where we come in. The Veterans Service Office provides personalized support to help veterans and their families access:

  • VA disability compensation & pension benefits
  • Education assistance and GI Bill support
  • Survivor and dependent benefits
  • Health care enrollment & benefits navigation
  • Burial and memorial benefits
  • Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits
  • PACT Act & toxic exposure claims
  • Camp Lejeune water contamination claims
  • Dependency & Indemnity Compensation (DIC)

In addition to VA claims assistance, we work directly with local partners to offer Comprehensive Support Services that address the full range of needs veterans may face, including:

  • Legal & Advocacy Services (Veterans Court Program, estate planning, family law)
  • Food Security Resources
  • Career Counseling & Job Placement
  • Financial Wellness & Crisis Financial Aid
  • Mental Health & Emotional Well-being
  • Substance Abuse Recovery Resources
  • Senior & Dependent Support Services
  • Housing Stability & Homelessness Prevention
  • Community and Family Engagement Opportunities

Our Approach

Every veteran’s situation is unique. Our office conducts individual needs assessments to ensure veterans receive the most appropriate resources and that partner resources are used wisely — providing assistance where it’s truly needed and sustainable.

Our office operates by four core values:

  • Compassion — Prioritizing empathy, respect, and care in all interactions with veterans and their families.
  • Integrity — Upholding honesty, transparency, and accountability in program operations and partnerships.
  • Collaboration — Building strong partnerships and fostering teamwork to maximize support and resources.
  • Empowerment — Equip veterans with the tools, knowledge, and support to reclaim autonomy and lead fulfilling lives.
